About the course

Dance is a form of art that enriches both the body and mind. It creates a space for children to expand their physical and mental stamina through beautifully crafted dance routines to rhythms of vibrant music. Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest classical art forms of India, and has been a significant cultural artifact of India. This course aims to create a platform for children to learn the various aspects of this dance form, which will enrich their cultural knowledge and deepen their passion for classical art.

What will be covered

The course will comprise of the following topics: 
Adavus, Alaripu, Jathiswaram, Shabdam, Varnam, Keerthanam, Padam, Javali, Ashtapadhi, Thillana and Abhinayam.

Each class will be divided into 5 parts:


  • Shlokam /prayer: Beginning and closing prayer to be recited in each class. 
  • Warm up exercises: To help students prepare for physical activity for an hour. Warm up exercises raises body temperature and increases blood flow in muscles.

  • Adavus /steps: These are the fundamental steps taught in Bharatanatyam which will equip children with proper dance posture/body language/stamina.

  • Theory: Each student will be trained in detail about the dance theory taught in class in order to help them take up exams in this art form.

  • Dance: Short shlokam/prayers will be chosen by the teacher based on the occasion/festival and students will be trained on the same.
Learning outcome

Children will learn to become graceful dancers by enhancing their artistic potential. This program will elevate their interest in classical dance forms and will encourage them to pursue it further.
