10 Important Life Lessons To Learn from Lord Vishnu’s Dashavatar

In our Hindu culture, we have a trinity of gods. They are Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe and Lord Shiva, the destroyer. Lord Vishnu being the preserver and protector of the universe, took the birth as an avatar to keep a balance between dharma ( righteousness) and adharma ( unrighteousness).

1. Matsya (The Fish) Avatar

The Matsya avatar is the first avatar of Lord Vishnu who saved the ancient scriptures and King Manu from a huge deluge. 2. Kurma Avatar ( The Tortoise)

In the second avatar of Lord Vishnu, he took the Kurma avatar to support Mount Mandara on his back during the churning of the ocean ( Samudra Manthan). This avatar of Lord Vishnu teaches us the importance of a strong foundation in any venture. Whether it is a career, relationship or spiritual journey. Stability and patience are vital ingredients of long-term success.

3. Varaha Avatar ( The Boar)

The Varaha Avatar of Lord Vishnu, the third avatar, rescued the Earth from the depths of the cosmic ocean by defeating the demon Hiranyakaha. This avatar teaches us to have the courage to face any situation with full courage and fearlessness. The trouble may be deep but with bravery and determination, any problem can be tackled and one can rescue what is important.

4. Narasimha ( The Man-Lion) Avatar.

The fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu is the Lord Narasimha avatar which shows that if a devotee has immense love and devotion for God then he does not need to worry about anything. God is always there to protect him. Lord Narasimha emerged from a pillar to save his little devotee named Prahlad and destroyed the demon Hiranyakashipu. This story teaches us that justice may not always follow the traditional paths. Sometimes, standing for the truth may also require breaking the rigid rules or expectations to uphold righteousness.

5. Vamana Avatar ( The Dwarf)

The powerful demon king Bali learnt the lesson of humility from the small Brahmin boy, Vamana, the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This avatar of Lord Vishnu highlighted the fact that no matter how powerful the wrong things would be, goodness always wins over evil. It also teaches that humility is not a weakness. The strength comes from calmness and humbleness. We should always stay calm which will lead to a better solution to any adverse situation.

6. Parashurama (The Warrior Sage)

Sage Parashurama showed that we should always stand against injustice like he did. Sage Parashurama punished corrupt rulers who misused their power by wielding his axe. Lord Vishnu’s sixth avatar, Parashurama acted against injustice while not advocating any violence. The Story of Sage Parashurama teaches us to fight for what is right without being fearful.

7. Lord Rama ( The ideal King)

The seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama’s life is an inspiration to be a good human being and follow the path of Dharma. Lord Rama portrays how we should walk on the path of dharma ( duty) even if it seems to be difficult. Lord Rama in the stories of Ramayana, showed us the value of integrity, honour and sacrifice. His life reminds us that we should always adhere to our principles in life.

8. Lord Krishna (The Divine Statesman)

Lord Krishna is the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. The life journey of Lord Krishna from his birth to when he became the Kind of Dwarka shows us many life lessons such as bravery, embracing complexity, truthfulness, kindness, stay calm in difficult situations. The conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjun becomes the Bhagavad Gita teaches us to perform our duty without thinking about the result.

9. Lord Buddha ( The Enlightened one)

In the Vaishnava tradition ( a part of Hinduism), Lord Buddha is considered the ninth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Lord Buddha teaches us to practice mindfulness, non-violence and compassion. The teachings of Lord Buddha help us to overcome the confusion and anxiety created by this world. Lord Buddha’s life stories encourage us to follow the path of righteousness and wisdom.

10. Kalki ( The Divine Warrior)

Kalki, the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu is yet to appear and he is prophesied to appear at the end of Kali Yuga ( the age of darkness) to restore the dharma ( righteousness). The final avatar of Lord Vishnu is a mark of optimism and righteousness. It teaches us that after every dark phase, there is a ray of light and a new beginning.
